As far as I remembered, my first plane ride when I was little was to the queen city of the south, Cebu. We were always flying to Cebu to visit relatives or to attend weddings, birthdays and even funerals. I think I have associated Cebu as a province of our family. And relatively near, an hour of plane away, a home away from home. But never really had the chance to explore the tourist spots.

Cebu is located in the Central Visayas Region consisting of a main island and 167 neighboring islands and islets(The whole Philippines has 7,107 islands). The Capital is Cebu City, which is the oldest city in the Philippines. The main access is to fly on the Mactan Cebu International Airport, located on Mactan Island.

Cebu is made up is known for its pristine beaches, lechon, Magellan’s cross, Sinulog festival, dried mangoes and a whole lot more. I have been to Cebu so many times that I already lost count, but this is my take on being a tourist wandering around the other few islands outside the city.

Here is the list of the places you must visit in Oslob, Moalboal and Badian in no particular order.

1. Osmeña Peak
Roughly 20-30 minute hike seeing the vast lands of Southern Cebu and perfect for sunrise and sunsets, too bad we were just welcomed by fog when we went up.

2. Whale Shark
Swimming with these gentle giants have been one of the most surreal moments in my life.
(Warning: You can’t touch them but they can accidentally bump you)

Note: Getting the perfect shot is impossible with more than 10 whale sharks swarming the area

3. Sumilon Island
You can do a lot of water activities on this island, yet we chose snorkeling our way to the island(its the cheapest and most calorie burning way!)

On this white sand bar along the island…….

4. Tumalog Falls
Greeted by the sight of this magical and majestic beauty

5. Aguinid Falls
This is for the adventure seeker. It is unique because it is not a single waterfall. Rather it is a system of waterfalls that runs for a couple of kilometers along Tangbo River. No life vest, no problem. We powered ourselves to finally reach the pinnacle. As the trekking guides said, currently it has 5 levels that is available for tourist and I repeat this is not for the faint-heated.

Using a single rope to climb up and down to the other levels.

The relief once we got to the level 4 to 5.

6. Pescador Island
Woke up early to catch the sardines run( millions of sardines!), tried the turtle chasing unfortunately we only saw one!  In addition, we got to see a closer look of the marine life with live corals and fed some fishes

what a beauty of underwater life is
swarmed the area with bread
sardines

Note: You can’t use nets or do fishing here

7. Kawasan Falls
The turquoise blue water is very clean and refreshing, 3 stages of water falls and an adventure you must try, Canyoneering!(you can do the half) Armed with helmet, life vest, foot wear and a very good guide, this is an adrenaline pumping once in a lifetime mind-blowing and body aching exhilarating adventure.

Want a getaway for the weekend or a long holiday? Book now and try these places (in just 2 full days) in Southern Cebu, once you arrive to Mactan Cebu International Airport, another 3-4 hours travel by land so reach the area, so traveling will consist almost the whole day so just stay near-by the night before rather than in Cebu City.

I shall return, Cebu
